This documentary about memory, history and the Vietnam War resists the conventions of traditional narrative, instead emphasizing the fragmentary and disjointed nature of its subjects. Fragments of memoirs, live reportage, journalistic documentation, radio clips, dreams and fantasies are combined in alternately cohesive and disruptive ways that sustain a sense of urgency and disorientation. With subtitles like "constructing historical containers" and "archiving," this piece also functions as a meta-documentary, interrogating the construction (and reconstruction) of meaning and the very notion of a document.
